The OCS was established to provide formal recognition for physical therapists with advanced clinical knowledge, experience and skills in a special practice area. Board certification assists consumers and the health care community in identifying these physical therapists. A therapist that is an OCS is also a critical resource for other therapists to help address complicated patient problems and injuries. Many studies have shown therapists with an OCS, are more efficient at diagnosing and getting a patient better quickly resulting in less time in therapy and a quicker recovery for patients
